Honored by: Blind Children’s Learning Center
Cause Area: Education
Gloria Cormier is an exceptional volunteer. For 24 years she has generously given of her talent and time in support of the children and families of Blind Children’s Learning Center. Gloria is a founding member of the Center’s fundraising support group – Cooking With Vision. She has led the efforts in acquiring some of Orange County’s most distinguished chefs to donate their talent and resources to host cooking events to benefit the Center.
Sadly, Cooking With Vision’s founder/leader became very ill and had to resign. When Gloria was asked to fill the leadership role, she graciously accepted. Through her leadership the group is strong and has grown to 60 members. This is the largest number of members since the group was founded in 1994.
In addition, Gloria was a weekly classroom volunteer working directly with the children. The program staff loved working with her. She rallied Cooking With Vision members to participate in cooking classes with the Center’s students – teaching children with visual impairments how to use kitchen utensils and prepare simple dishes.
She is an outstanding ambassador for the children. She constantly shares with colleagues, family and friends her passion for the mission of the Center which has resulted in many new donors raising thousands of dollars supporting the Center’s core programs.
She has helped to provide life changing services for hundreds of children with visual impairments. Gloria has truly left an exquisite mark on the Center and she is deeply treasured.
